Can AI write my consent order?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming a bigger part of everyday life. It’s being used by industries, schools, and even in our homes. As AI gets more advanced, people are asking: how good is it? Can it write essays or solve problems? Can it make safe decisions or offer balanced opinions? And more importantly, can it replace human jobs like those in the legal profession? Could it even write a consent order?
What is AI?
AI stands for Artificial Intelligence. The technology allows computers to do tasks that usually require human intelligence. This includes solving problems, learning new things, making decisions, understanding language, and recognising objects or sounds.
What is a consent order?
A consent order is a legally binding agreement, sealed by a judge, in which you and your ex have agreed on how you will separate your finances on divorce. The agreement can include arrangements on how to divide pensions or property or in relation to your child arrangements and/or pets if needed.
A consent order can be prepared at any time after you have divorced, even if you have been legally divorced for some time. Typically, consent orders are drawn up by legal professionals. Once you have a sealed consent order, your financial agreement is binding and enforceable by the courts, so it’s important to have one drafted properly.
In England and Wales, if you get divorced and don’t have a consent order sealed by a judge, the law doesn’t stop either you or your ex from making claims against each other’s future finances. For example, an increase in income, pension savings or inheritance.
Can AI write my consent order?
We asked AI this question, and its answer is:
“Only if you are willing to run the risk that the court will reject the consent order and you have the time and money to back-pedal, unravel what you have done and submit amended documents.”
In short, AI isn’t a substitute for a qualified legal professional when writing a consent order. It could cost you more time, money, and stress if it doesn’t meet legal standards.
Who can prepare a consent order?
Legal professionals like services such as amicable or solicitors can draft your consent order. Choosing a neutral service like amicable can be more cost-effective than hiring separate solicitors. amicable doesn’t create sides or unnecessary conflict. You can read the differences between using solicitors and amicable in our blog on the topic here.
Alongside drafting the consent order, amicable can help you and your ex come to a fair agreement that meets both of your needs. We offer negotiation services where a Divorce Specialist will guide you through the process and help you create an agreement that the courts can approve.
How much does it cost to get a consent order?
The cost of a consent order depends on who prepares it. Solicitors usually charge hourly fees, and on average, it costs £8,000 per person to finalise a consent order through two separate solicitors. If no agreement is reached, these costs can go up quickly.
amicable is a trusted alternative and more affordable than using separate solicitors. Our Consent Order Service starts at £900 per couple. For a fixed fee of £3,450, you can use our Negotiation Service, which includes support in reaching a fair and balanced agreement, preparing the consent order and managing your divorce. The only other cost is the court fee to submit a consent order, which is currently £58, and £593 to submit the divorce application if you haven’t done this already.
