Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch with amicable.

There are many factors that Child Maintenance Service (CMS) will take into account when looking into child maintenance arrangements.

Whilst other forms of income & assets can be included when calculating child maintenance, it's important to remember that there’s the statutory minimum that needs to be paid, as raising children can be very expensive, and unexpected costs pop up. You can find out what the statutory minimum is using the CMS calculator.

There are lots of ways of working out a fair arrangement for both CMS arrangement and private arrangements. You can use our Negotiation Service to work out an arrangement that works for you and your family in the context of your full financial agreement. Alternatively, you can book a free 15-minute advice call to get more information on the options available to you.

And here’s a helpful blog and an episode of The Divorce Podcast that explore the topic of child maintenance a bit further.

Best wishes, Tatiana
