Hey everyone,

Bit of a mess over here and could really do with some guidance. Me and my partner have been together 9 years, got two kids (6 and 8), and we own a house together. I’ve been mainly at home looking after the kids for the past few years, and we’ve got a joint savings account and a few small investments.

We’ve decided to separate and honestly I don’t even know where to start. I’m stressing about stuff like who keeps what, what to do with the mortgage, how the kids get sorted, and whether I should talk to a solicitor straight away or try to figure some things out informally first.

If anyone’s been through this, what were your first steps? Any tips on sorting property, savings, or childcare arrangements without it all turning into a nightmare?

It’s a lot to take in and I just don’t want to miss anything important.
