I want to divorce my abusive husband - more so verbally but has been physical (police called) but know he will fight me all the way. He's already said he'd rather burn the house down that split with me. What can I do to try and keep this civil? He's so controlling and manipulates things to his way and then I cop the blame for everything. I have two dogs and worry about where I would end up living.

Hi Alison,
Thank you for reaching out to amicable and I am very sorry to hear about your situation.
As we're a couples service, and only work with couples, we can't normally help with this sort of situation, as it's not usually safe or possible. We also can't give you independent legal advice on this, however, I thought the following information may be useful for you.
The safety of you and your children is the most important consideration. You can reach out to Refuge – The National Domestic Violence Charity. There is also a helpline run in conjunction with Women’s Aid. You can call and speak to someone who can provide advice. Contact them on 0808 2000 247.
You are entitled to legal aid if you are being domestically abused. The GOV.UK website explains where to get help and what situations qualify for legal aid. You can search for a solicitor who is legal aid registered and they will explain how they can help you can access legal support to help you with all aspects of your divorce including your finances. Search the Resolution database or Court Nav for assistance in obtaining legal aid advice specialising in Domestic Abuse.
To hear more options available to you, you can book a free 15-minute advice call.
I hope this helps.
