I went to the webinar this week on estate planning after divorce and it was actually really useful.
My divorce was finalised about six months ago and thought I’d sorted most things, but it made me realise there are a few loose ends I never got round to. Nothing urgent, just things that probably need tidying up.
I didn't consider that things like pensions and life insurance don’t automatically update. There’s a good chance mine still names my ex, which isn’t really what I’d want now.
They also mentioned LPAs, which I set up years ago and completely forgot about. Mine definitely still has my ex on it, so that’s something I need to change.
Overall it was more of a helpful nudge than anything worrying. It sounds like it’s quite common to leave this stuff for a while after divorce - but not recommended!
My plan now is to go through things step by step, starting with checking beneficiaries and then updating my will.
Has anyone else done this recently? Anything easy to miss when going through it all?
