On the 30th September 2021, the government increased the court fees to divorce and separate. This means, separating couples in England and Wales will pay more for applying for the legal paperwork associated with their divorce (unless you are eligible for a discount or exemption).

When will the court fee costs change?

As of today (Thursday 30th September) the government court fees to divorce and separate have increased.

What are the changes in court fees?

The cost of applying for a divorce or dissolution (D8) has increased from £550 to £593.

The cost of submitting a consent order (the financial split part of your divorce or dissolution) has increased from £50 to £53

How do I find out if we can get discount on the divorce court fee?

The government has also changed how they calculate if you are eligible for a discount on the divorce court fee. We will update you on their new calculation here when it's ready. However, for now, if you want to find out if you might be entitled to a discount, use our divorce court fee calculator.
