Sign up and invite your partner

One of you signs up and invites the other. You each get your own dashboard, so you can both see where things are up to.

Complete your financial disclosure

You both share the details of your finances through your dashboard. It's straightforward and guides you through each step, so you each have an honest picture of what the other brings.

Work it out together, across three guided sessions

Your Specialist works with both of you using our GROW model: set your Goals together, look at the Reality of your finances, explore your Options, then finalise What you've agreed.

We draft it, you each get your own independent legal advice, then you sign

Your agreement is drafted for you and explained in plain English. A lawyer from our panel then gives each of you your own independent legal advice, and your deed is drafted, ready for you both to sign in front of a witness, in good time before the wedding.

Priti and Sean, getting married next summer | Assisted Prenup

Priti (33) and Sean (35) were getting married the following July. No inheritance, no business, nothing complicated: a flat Sean bought before they met, Priti's pension and savings, and a joint account for the bills.

Priti had been thinking about a prenup for months and kept putting off saying it, worried Sean would hear it as doubt. He didn't. They talked it through over a few weeks and agreed the whole picture between them, so Assisted was the right fit. They completed their disclosure, had a session with their Specialist to check nothing was missing, and their agreement was drafted from what they'd recorded. Independent legal advice for each of them was included, for a fraction of the two quotes they'd had from solicitors.

The conversation turned out to be the useful part. The agreement is the proof they had it.

Assisted Prenup

Aisha and Robin, a family gift towards the deposit | Guided Prenup

Aisha (30) and Robin (32) were buying a flat before the wedding, with £60,000 towards the deposit from Aisha's parents, who had gently raised the idea of a prenup. The two of them had already agreed that money should stay Aisha's. What they hadn't thought about was everything else: two pensions, Robin's savings, and whatever they build from here.

They chose Guided. Across three sessions their Specialist helped them work through the rest of it, not just the deposit, and land on something they both felt was fair. Nothing was drafted until they were both happy with it, and they each had their own independent legal advice before signing.

They went into the marriage having sorted the whole picture, with Aisha's parents' gift clearly accounted for.

Guided Prenup

Nia and Cerys, an inheritance has arrived | Assisted Postnup

Nia (45) inherited a share of her mother's house eighteen months after she and her wife Cerys (44) married. They talked it over and agreed it should stay Nia's if they ever were to separate in future, different from the home and savings they had built together. Being married doesn't do that on its own, which neither of them had realised.

They hadn't only talked about the inheritance. They'd been through their pensions, their savings, the house and what they'd build from here, so Assisted was right. Their Specialist reviewed what they'd recorded, checked nothing was missing, and had the agreement drafted. Independent legal advice for each of them, the deed and the witnessed signing were all in the fixed fee.

The question is settled between them, written down while they both agree on it.

Assisted Postnup

Tomasz and Erin, our situation has changed | Guided Postnup

Six years into the marriage, Erin (39) had built a business from nothing into something worth several hundred thousand pounds, while Tomasz (41) had gone part-time to look after their two children. They both wanted that recognised in writing but were stuck on how. Tomasz felt awkward raising it, and Erin didn't want him left worse off for stepping back.

Guided gave them three sessions with a Specialist who worked with both of them at once, rather than through two law firms. They agreed how the business and Erin's pension would be treated, and how Tomasz's years at home would count. They each took their own independent legal advice before signing, included in the amicable price.

They came away with something they had built together, and a conversation they had been putting off for two years.

Guided Postnup

Yasmin and Iain, marrying again | Assisted Prenup

Yasmin (54) and Iain (57) were getting married eighteen months after Yasmin's divorce came through. She had kept her flat and her pension from before, he had a house and two grown-up children. Neither of them wanted a repeat of what Yasmin had just been through, and they had already talked through how they wanted things to work.

Because they had agreed the whole picture, the Assisted service fit. They completed their disclosure on their own dashboards, had a session to check it over with their Specialist, and their agreement was drafted from what they had recorded. They each had their own independent legal advice from a different lawyer on our panel, both included in the one fixed fee.

They married eight weeks later, with the agreement signed in good time and nothing left for them to arrange.

Assisted Prenup

Marc and Danny, we already had one abroad | Assisted Postnup

Marc (38) and Danny (40) signed a prenup in California before moving to London for Marc's job. Three years in, they learned it might not do what they expected under the law of England and Wales. They knew exactly what they had agreed back then and wanted it made properly here.

Assisted suited them. Working with one Specialist who saw both sides of it, rather than two firms writing to each other, they went through what the two of them had already decided and checked it covered their whole financial picture, not only the assets the American agreement named. A postnuptial agreement was drafted under the law of England and Wales, with independent legal advice for each of them included.

They have an agreement now that works where they live.

FAQs

Do you work with couples in Scotland or Northern Ireland?

Our service is for couples in England and Wales. The law on nuptial agreements is different in Scotland and Northern Ireland, so we are not able to help there at the moment.

Will our agreement actually hold up?

A nuptial agreement isn't automatically binding in England and Wales. However, you should expect the court to hold you to an agreement that is fair and properly made: you both shared your finances honestly, you each had your own independent legal advice, nobody felt pressured, and it was signed in good time before the wedding. Our whole process has been built to meet that standard.

What's not included?

Tax or financial planning advice, though we can point you to the right people. Wills and estate planning, though we can signpost you to our partners at Octopus Legacy.

Do we each get our own independent legal advice?

Yes, and it's included in your price for both of you. You each get your own advice meeting with a different lawyer from our panel, so you both understand the agreement fully before you sign. Your deed and the witnessed signing are handled for you too, so there's nothing left for you to arrange.

What if things change once we're married?

Agreements don't expire, but they should be reviewed when life changes: a new business, a new baby, a move, a big change in income.

What's the difference between a prenup and a postnup?

They're the same kind of agreement, the only difference is timing. A prenup is made before the wedding, a postnup after.

Does this mean we're planning for things to go wrong?

Not at all. Making an agreement together is a way of deciding what feels fair between you, while you are calm and on the same page. Plenty of couples find the conversation brings them closer, because it puts everything out in the open and settles a question that might otherwise sit quietly in the background.

What's the difference between the Guided and Assisted services?

The Guided service is for couples who'd like help working out the details, with three guided sessions to work through it together. The Assisted service is for couples who've already agreed everything and want it drafted properly, for a lower fixed fee. If you're not sure which fits, a free consultation is a good place to start.

What happens in the sessions?

Your Specialist works with both of you using our GROW model: you set your Goals together, look at the Reality of your finances, explore your Options, then finalise What you've agreed.

What if we can't agree on something?

That's what the sessions are for. Your Specialist works with both of you to find something you're both happy with, and nothing gets drafted until you are.

Can we add more sessions?

Yes. Three sessions are included, and extra sessions with your Specialist are £300 each.

How long before the wedding do we need to start?

Start at least three months before, the earlier the better so you're not rushing before the big day. An agreement should be signed more than 28 days before the ceremony, so we work back from your date. If time is too tight, we can draft it as a postnup instead and sign after the wedding, at no extra cost.

Do you work with civil partners too?

Yes, and it's the same service at the same price. If you're planning to register your civil partnership, the agreement is made beforehand, like a prenup. If you're already civil partners, it's made afterwards, like a postnup. The only difference is the wording of the document itself. Let us know when you get started and we'll make sure it's drafted the right way for you.

Is amicable a law firm?

No. amicable is a legal services company, not a traditional or adversarial law firm, and that's the point. We work with both of you together to ensure you have an agreement that you both understand and meets your expectations. To ensure you each understand your individual position, we partner with a panel of trusted family lawyers. Each of you will be assigned a different lawyer from our panel, who will provide you with independent legal advice on your agreement, included as part of your fixed fee.

Ready to work it out together?

The Guided service gives you three sessions with a Specialist, then a properly prepared agreement with independent legal advice for each of you included.
