FAQs
Who is amicable?
amicable is the trusted service for couples at every stage of their relationship. From planning a life
together to navigating separation, our unique approach helps couples make clear, calm and fair
decisions, together.
What is a cohabitation agreement?
A cohabitation agreement, also called a 'living together agreement', documents arrangements
between a couple who are living together, providing protection now and in the future. A
cohabitation agreement can be established at any relationship stage, whether you're just moving in
together or have lived together for years already.
How do your services work?
amicable offers a range of different services, from planning support for couples to negotiation and legal services for those separating or divorcing. Our unique approach puts people and families at the centre.
How long does it take?
A cohabitation agreement will take around one to two weeks to prepare once the required information has been provided.
How is a cohabitation agreement different from a deed of trust?
Both are useful and they work together. It's best practice to have both. A deed of trust is a focused document that records property ownership shares. It's a snapshot, fixed at the point you buy. A cohabitation agreement is broader and forward-looking. It covers property too, but also bills, savings, debts, shared purchases and how you'll handle changes over time, like a renovation, an income shift or buying somewhere new together. It captures the whole picture of your life together, not just one part of it. The cohabitation agreement is the bigger framework. The deed of trust sits underneath it, recording the property shares specifically. Your Specialist will help you understand what you need and where the deed of trust fits in.
