FAQs
Who is amicable?
We’re the trusted legal service for separating couples. Our specialists help couples separate, reach a fair financial agreement and decide arrangements for children without using separate solicitors.
Are pets treated the same as children in separation?
No. In law, pets are considered property, not dependants. That can feel upsetting for many people. Our service helps you work through practical arrangements for your pet in a fair, thoughtful way, even though the law doesn’t formally recognise pet arrangements.
What kinds of decisions can we cover about our pet?
You can agree things like who your pet will live with, how ongoing costs will be shared, arrangements for time spent with each of you and what happens if circumstances change in future.
What if one of us paid more for the pet or its care?
Financial contributions can be part of the conversation, alongside factors like who has been the main carer and what’s best for the pet’s welfare. Our specialists help you look at the full picture and reach an agreement that feels reasonable to both of you.
Can pet arrangements be included in our wider separation agreement?
Yes. While pet arrangements aren’t legally binding on their own, we can help record what you’ve agreed as part of a broader separation agreement, so everything is documented clearly in one place.
