Chloe and Marco, Renting | Together for four years | Shared household

Chloe (33), a marketing executive and Marco (36), a researcher, had been renting together for three years at £1,800 per month when they decided to separate. Emotions were mixed, but they both wanted a practical, drama-free way to untangle their shared life.

In their session, they worked out who would stay in the flat short term, how to handle notice with their landlord, how to divide furniture and moving out costs - and shared purchases worth roughly £5,000 in total. They would both need furniture for their new places and talked through how to fairly split items they'd bought together. Having a structured conversation helped reduce tension and made the situation feel more manageable for both of them.

They left with a clear, agreed timeline that allowed both of them to plan their next steps with less stress.

Aisha and Daniel, Owned home | Family deposit support

Aisha (36), a pharmacist and Daniel (34), a self-employed electrician, owned a flat worth £310,000 with £90,000 in equity. Aisha’s parents had contributed £15,000 towards the original deposit. As they separated, they found it hard to know what was fair - especially with pressure from family to handle things in a certain way.

The session gave them a structured space to explore property options and talk through how to approach conversations with Aisha’s parents. They left the session feeling clearer about where to go from here and communicating more openly about their next steps.

Helga and Mark, Together for ten years | Shared home and savings

Helga (55), a part-time administrator and Mark (63), a recently retired engineer had lived together for ten years. They owned a home with approximately £220,000 in equity and shared savings of about £35,000.

Their separation felt deeply emotional, and they felt overwhelmed by the practical decisions they now faced. During the session, they talked through how to divide meaningful belongings, manage shared savings and approach conversations with their lifelong friends about their separation.

They came away with a clearer sense of direction and a more respectful foundation for moving forward separately.

Sam and Jordan, Renting | Shared pet

Sam (33), a junior graphic designer and Jordan (31), a bar manager, were renting a flat for £1,100 per month when they decided to separate. They needed to work out practical arrangements for ending their tenancy, splitting expensive gym equipment they had purchased together and dividing their belongings, but their biggest concern was their elderly dog, whom they had adopted three years earlier and was an important part of both their lives.

The session helped them address the practical side of their separation – who would take which furniture, how to handle their tenancy notice and split their deposit – while also giving proper space to discuss their dog's wellbeing and future. They talked about living arrangements for the dog, how to share costs and what kind of contact between them would feel healthy going forward. They also discussed how they'd handle emergency vet bills and decision-making around their dog's ongoing health condition.

By the end, they had practical arrangements in place to split their shared belongings and an agreement for their dog that prioritised stability and reduced the tension between them.

Ella and Saba, Long relationship | Shared social circle

Ella (40), a communications consultant and Saba (42), a small business owner, had lived together for 12 years in a rented home costing £1,600 per month. Their lives were deeply intertwined, especially their close group of mutual friends that had supported them through difficult times.

In their session, they worked through who would keep household items worth roughly £8,000, set boundaries around communication and discussed how to handle shared friendships in the early stages of their separation.
